Mini Series

In my mini series, I only used 2 colors. It was origininally about the reflections on the shiny elephant, but they it became about a life story. The way they are arranged looks like it tells a story of the elephant. Personally, this is my favorite piece so far.

Painting Cloth

This painting is about the color of white and the colors of reflected light off of white. The object in the painting is a hanging shirt with a colorful tie. This painting taught me how to be patient in finding the right colors that "make it work". My favorite part of this painting is the hanger because of how I lightly suggested it instead of trying to paint it there exactly.

Dessert

This painting was done for fun. It is small, and I did it quickly. It is one of my favorites because I used heavy paint to suggest the thickness of the icing on the cupcake.

Painting the Colors of Black

My goals in this painting were to paint a black object without using actual black paint. I tried doing this be painting reflections and highlights into the dark purplish bluish paint that I mixed for black. This painting is mostly about reflections in the black object (a telephone). The most challenging part of this was finding the right colors to use. I met that challenge by trying different color mixtures over and over. My painting really orks around the middle because that is the focal point of the reflections. I learned how to mix dark colors, and I can use that in future paintings. If I had to do it over, I would use some different colors. I like the lipstick and the reflection. I also like how I suggested the telephone dial.

First Oil Painting

I had never used oil paints until late in Studio 1. I found it challenging, but fun. This painting is about reflections in the silver cup and the light reflections off of the white shoe. Also, in this beginning painting, I learned a little about how a shadow changes color as it goes over different colors of the paper underneath. This painting was a breakthrough for me and learning experience.

Beginning Contour Drawings

I thought that these beginning lessons were great.
I loved drawing without picking up my pen.
It was challenging, but fun.
Adding water color to the drawings in pen
 gave the sketches
 life.
My teacher said to take risks,
so I decided to paint the bottom shoe
 in purple and yellow
- opposites -
and draw the shoes from difficult angles.
My personal favorite
 is the middle shoe
because it was my first shoe contour
 drawing.
